The Color Purple musical is officially over,and will give its final performance on Feb. 24 at the Broadway Theater.The musical was based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker. Color Purple lead producer Scott Sanders released a statement:
“I am extremely proud of this new musical we have brought to life, its creative success and the way in which we have been able to expand the Broadway audience in a culturally significant way,”

Oprah Winfrey has been honored by the Producers Guild of America with the 2008 Stanley Kramer Award for the new Denzel Washington film “The Great Debaters .
The Producers Guild has recognized Oprah for shedding light on social issues.
Winfrey and the other producers Todd Black, Kate Forte and Joe Roth will receive the award on Feb. 2 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.Kate Forte said:
“Oprah and I are very proud of this film and honored to receive the PGA’s Stanley Kramer Award,” “‘The Great Debaters’ has been a labor of love and we are grateful to be recognized in this way.”
“Hotel Rwanda,” “An Inconvenient Truth” “Good Night, and Good Luck,” “Antoine Fisher” and “I Am Sam” have all previously received the Stanley Kramer Award .

Denzel Washington and TV mogul Oprah Winfrey were pictured at The Great Debaters premiere at the Arclight Theater in Hollywood last night.
Dreamgirl Jennifer Hudson,Gail King,Samuel L Jackson and Kimberly Elise attended the event.
Denzel returns on Christmas Day with a double role as actor and director of the story about a championship debate team from an all-black college in 1935.
Washington has been getting Oscar buzz for his latest movie American Gangster.

Oprah Winfrey and Denzel Washington are on the cover of the new issue of Parade magazine.Denzel Washington played in and directed a new movie called “The Great Debaters” that was produced by Oprah Winfrey.According to CBS:
The film tells the real life story how Melvin B. Tolson, a professor at Wiley College Texas, spearheaded the school’s newly formed debate team into stardom in 1935 by leading the squad to the national championships against Harvard.
“The Great Debaters” will hit theaters on Dec. 25,2007.
