Venus Williams Reaches U.S. Open Quarterfinals – Venus Williams and Kim Clijsters have reached the Us Open quarterfinals. Williams was barely able to advance, and needed 1 hour and 54 minutes to beat Israel Shahar in the previous round. She has been having serving problems throughout the tournament, and missed on 52 percent of her first serves in the previous round. This is something that she will have to correct if she hopes to advance against a much better opponent.

Williams is currently the third seed, will be playing Kim Clijsters, who has not lost a match at the US Open since 2003. She won nine of her final ten games in the previous round to beat Ana Ivanovic. Her match only took 59 minutes, and Clijsters said that it took her a fair amount of time to adapt to the heavy winds that were present during her match.

Al Sharpton Rally For 47th Anniversary of I Have A Dream Speech – Al Sharpton is not pleased with the way that Glenn Beck has presented his upcoming rally. The rally will be held at the Lincoln memorial, on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech, which was also given at the same location. Beck has said that he did not purposely choose the date, but now seems to be capitalizing on the opportunity to present the rally as being related to the civil rights movement.
Thousands of tea party supports were expected to attend the rally on Saturday.

The event is named “Restoring Honor,” and was created to show support for the troops that are overseas and at home. The location and timing of the rally have been brought into question by some civil rights veterans, including Al Sharpton, who may be the world’s most known living civil rights activist.

Wyclef Disqualified: Jean to Appeal Election Board Decision – Wyclef Jean is better known as being a hip hop star than a presidential candidate, and his announcement to run for the presidency of Haiti sounds rather strange and like an extremely bad idea.

The country has just been hit by an earthquake, and before that the economy was in an extremely poor state and the amount of problems it is facing is immense. Wyclef Jean feels he would be the man to solve all these problems, despite the fact he has no political, diplomatic, financial experience, doesn’t have any proven record as a leader of people.

Haiti doesn’t have the best choice of possible leaders, with it seemingly being between a celebrity with too much money and not enough brains, or a strict loyalty to laws that limit outside influence. Not the best situation for a country that needs enough help as it can get.

According to Mr Jean, who was born in Haiti, “I will be seeking a solution through legal channels, and I urge my countrymen to be patient.”

Amar’e Stoudemire on Jewish Heritage: Says He Is Keeping Kosher – Amare Stoudemire was recently awarded a $100 million dollar contract to play for the New York Knicks. He recently traveled to Israel to research his Jewish roots, and is reportedly embracing that part of his history. He announced yesterday that he is practicing the Jewish faith both “spiritually and culturally” now. He made the announcement after traveling with 30 kids on a double decker bus headed for Madison Square Gardens.
“I didn’t grow up in a Jewish home. I never had a bar mitzvah, never celebrated the holy days growing up,” Stoudemire said.

Since he returned from Israel, he has been living like a changed man. He said that he was deeply moved by the things that he found out while he was learning about that piece of his ancestry, and that he realized that a lot of things that the Jewish faith celebrates are things that he already celebrated in his day to day life.

Antonio Cromatie Accuses HBO: Hard Knocks Made Him Look Bad – Antonio Cromartie is upset with the way that he was portrayed on HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” One seen showed him trying to remember the names of his children that he has had with seven different women. Now, he is accusing HBO of re-shooting the scene to make him look bad while HBO said that Cromartie is lying about the incident. He told the New York Post that the director shot him the first time through, and then asked him to go over the names of his children again slow2ly, pausing in between the names.

“Nah, I didn’t have trouble,” Cromartie said. “I mean, they asked me to pause. I had nailed it the one time before, but they had to redo it and they just told me to pause between each one of the names.”
HBO has claimed that the scene was done in one take and that they did not purposely ask him to say the names of his children in that way. If it were true, it would be very interesting to hear what their motives were behind it.

Wyclef Jean Death Threats: Wyclef Jean Hiding in Haiti – Wyclef Jean has gone into hiding after receiving death threats while he waited to see if he would be allowed to run for President in the upcoming election in Haiti. Jean has come under fire after announcing his intentions to run for President.

Sean Penn said that he was skeptical about Jean’s reasoning behind running, and said that he believed that the allegations that Jean stole money from his Haitian charity should be investigated further before he is allowed to run. His former band mate with the Fugees, Pras, also said that he would not support Jean in his bid to become President of the impoverished nation.

The musician disclosed the threats in a series of emails to the Associated Press. He did not reveal the details that were included in the threats, but apparently they were enough to rattle him and force him to go into hiding. He said that he was told to get out of Haiti and that he was in hiding in a secret location until the storm blows over.

Jean said that he was unsure whether or not Haiti’s electoral commission would approve his candidacy, but also said that he was eagerly awaiting the results of their investigation.
“We await the CEP decision but the laws of the Haitian Constitution must be respected,” he said in an –email to the Associated Press.

Pras Not Endorsing Wyclef Haiti Presidential Bid: Michel Martelly (Sweet Micky) Endorsement – Wyclef’s former band mate, Pras, is not backing his bid to become the president of Haiti, his home country. He has received criticism from the media, and now his childhood friend and former band mate is attacking him. The Haitian-born musician said that he will not back Jean because he lacks a definitive plan to bring the island nation back into the 21st century.

“You’ve got 1.2 million people living in tent city right now. What are the plans to get those people out,” Pras asked of Wyclef during a recent interview. He was referring to those that are still homeless in the wake of the earthquake that struck the nation earlier in the year.

Pras said that he would support Jean’s opponent, Michel Martelly instead. He said that he believed that Martelly is better suited to run the country, and that he is more popular in Haiti than Wyclef.

The man, Omar Thornton, shot 10 co-workers in the rampage, of which 8 were fatally wounded. He spoke to a 911 operator, calling himself “the shooter over in Manchester”, calling his workplace a ‘racist place’, and saying he ‘handled the problem’, but wished he had shot more people.

Barry Bonds 20K National Association of Black Journalists Donation – Why would retired slugger Barry bonds make a huge donation to a journalists group?
He was never known as the type to get along with reporters, and had his career tarnished by reports of steroid use and other allegations that were made against him. But now, he is handing out money before he goes on trial for perjury.

The Bonds’ foundation donated more than $20,000 to the National Association of Black Journalists to fund the “Entrepreneurial Spirit Award,” which will be named after the Bay Area broadcaster Ray Taliaferro.
Some have speculated that the donation was made in hopes that he would receive better press during his upcoming trial. Bonds has been a controversial individual for quite some time, and his breaking of the home run record only created more debate regarding him.

He has long since been dropping little hints about a possible conversion, but he has been creating more confusion than anything else. His veiled comments about ‘his roots’ seem to point to a Jewish lineage, but that is largely in debate.
