Obama Appeal To Blacks, Latinos – President Obama did not include white, middle-age male voters in launching his first midterm election pitch Monday, calling on “young people, African Americans, Latinos and women” to deliver for Democrats in November.
In a video to supporters, Obama urged those who helped get him elected in 2008 not to abandon Democrats in an election year that is shaping up to take a chunk out of the Democratic majority in Congress.
In the appeal, Obama says new voters who “powered our victory in 2008” need to “stay involved” in 2010.
“It will be up to each of you to make sure that the young people, African Americans, Latinos and women, who powered our victory in 2008 stand together once again,” he said.

Blagojevich Lawyers Want To Subpoena Obama – Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s lawyers asked a federal judge on Thursday to issue a subpoena for President Barack Obama to testify as a witness at his corruption trial.
Blagojevich said in court papers filed by defense attorney Sam Adam that Obama would be able to resolve questions surrounding the government’s allegation that the former governor sought to sell or trade the seat left vacant following the president’s November 2008 election, reports The Associated Press.
“President Barack Obama has direct knowledge of the Senate seat allegation,” Blagojevich’s 11-page motion filed with U.S. District Judge James B. Zagel said.
There was no allegation in the court papers of any wrongdoing on Obama’s part.
The motion said there was a conflict between comments made by Obama at a news conference and statements to federal prosecutors made by a labor union president and a candidate for the seat.

Birther Bill In Arizona Going After President Obama – If President Obama wants to run again in 2012, he may need to prove to the state of Arizona that he was in fact born in the United States.
An amendment made by a Republican member of the state’s House of Representatives, Rep. Judy Burges, to a bill concerning how candidates can get on Arizona’s ballot would require them to show documents to prove they are a “natural born citizen,” reports the NY Daily News.
Dubbed the “birther bill,” the provision won a preliminary 31-22 vote, but the bill itself still faces a formal vote before it is sent to the state’s Senate.
Attempts have been made in other states, such as Florida and Oklahoma, to introduce similar legislation. None of them have ever become law.
“Republicans continue to take Arizona down the wrong track by wasting taxpayers’ time on frivolous legislation instead of working on important issues like heath care for kids and seniors and education,” said Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, a Democrat, in a statement.

I am both surprised and deeply humbled by the decision of the Nobel Committee. Let me be clear: I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations.
